As well as being a prolific composer and record producer, Chris has been associated with many West End and Broadway shows in the past as either Musical Director or Orchestrator including Godspell, Oliver!, Side by Side by Sondheim, My Fair Lady, Tomfoolery, Me and My Girl, Cabaret, Follies, Hot Shoe Shuffle and The Secret Garden. He has also provided orchestrations for the movies Shirley Valentine and Impromptu .
His credits include writing the orchestrations and dance arrangements for the West End Production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which ran for over three and a half years at The London Palladium. The show also transferred to Broadway and is currently on a highly successful National Tour of the UK. He was also the Musical Director for the London production of Ragtime and has worked with its Olivier Award-winning star, Maria Friedman on her one-woman show. Maria and Chris have performed together at festivals throughout Europe, at The Carlyle Café in New York and more recently on her show Maria Friedman-Re-Arranged at The Menier Chocolate Factory in London.
Chris was also responsible for orchestrating Aladdin at The Old Vic which played for two Christmas seasons as well as creating the Dance Arrangements for the National Theatre and Cameron Mackintosh’s West End production of My Fair Lady and its highly successful UK and USA National Tour.
The West End run at The Theatre Royal, Haymarket and the UK Tour of Acorn Antiques and a recording of The Likes of Us, the first show ever composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, also contained Chris’s orchestrations.
Chris has also directed a New York workshop of Denis King and Mary Stewart David’s musical play “Afterwards”. In addition, he has written the compositions for Ray Cooney’s musical ‘Twice Upon A Time” which first performed at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford before transferring to Redondo Beach Los Angeles.
More recently he orchestrated Imagine This, a new musical produced by ICW Productions which had its world premiere at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth before transferring to The New London Theatre in London’s West End in November 2008. He is currently the Musical Supervisor of the Berlin production Der Schuh Des Manitu and the orchestrator of ‘Sweet Charity’ at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London.
Despite a busy schedule, Chris is also composing a number of other original projects of his own including an adaptation of Oliver Goldsmith’s novel, ‘The Vicar of Wakefield’ and a new, as yet unnamed project with choreographer-director Gillian Lynne, as well as the score of an animated film in conjunction with Robert Sherman Junior.
