Sumit Bose is an accomplished presenter and journalist. Born in London an raised partly in Calcutta, India, he was educated at the University of London graduating with an honours degree in Microbiology in 1989.


He began his career as a freelance writer working in local newspapers in Kent and Essex. After completing his NCTJ certificate in Journalism at Cambridge University, he went on to write for local newspapers in North London and Middlesex. From there he moved on to Fleet Street excelling in original journalism across all disciplines from Republican terrorism to political scandals, crime, science and sport with a track record for breaking exclusives.


In 1993, Sumit joined the BBC as a journalist and soon established himself as a popular TV and Radio Presenter. His has worked mainly in news and current affairs reporting and presenting local news. He joined News 24 when it launched and he was the head of the BBC’s first journalist DV Camera unit in BBC Science where he spent two years breaking scientific stories including an exclusive 30 minute documentary.

Between 1999 and 2001, Sumit became one of the reporting faces of BBC Breakfast News before moving on to become the launch presenter of a groundbreaking news service on BBC THREE during which time he covered the 9/11 disaster.


Sumit has narrated and presented several documentaries for both TV and radio. He also contributed to the BBC Holiday programme as a regular travel reporter/presenter. Destinations covered include Mexico, Cape Verdi Islands, an Ecological Diving Holiday,  Ski-Diving in Northern Spain,  The New Airbus Factory in Toulouse, Flotilla Holiday in Greece and a photographic Holiday in Andalucia and a diving holiday in the Red Sea.


He has also taken part in the World’s toughest endurance race attempting to ski 380 miles across the Arctic Circle to the Magnetic North Pole. Unfortunately, extreme weather conditions prevented him from completing the trek which would have credited him as the first British Asian to go to the Pole. The purpose of the challenge was to help raise awareness of “Parkinson Disease” having lost his father to the disease in 2003.


Aside from his television career, he is a popular compere for corporate events and media training. He has worked with various financial and medical organisations and has hosted several charity balls including a fashion show. Sumit has an ability to manage the difficult balance between serious journalist credibility with entertaining audience participation.


He is a qualified Scuba diver, plays all racquet sports and is an avid movie buff. He speaks Bengali and enjoys travel. For his sins he supports Leyton Orient and lives in London.
