Will Giles is a fanatical gardener, inspired by his first visit to Kew Gardens at the age of seven. He is probably the main exponent of the Exotic gardening boom in the UK today.
He has contributed to numerous television programmes and his exotic garden has been featured on various programmes including the BBC Gardeners World television series, endorsing his work and passion for exotic plants.
Over the last twenty years, he has established himself in this specialised field, working mainly from his own glorious exotic-style garden based in Norfolk on the east coast of England. Much of his work has been inspired by his trips to the Amazon, Central America, the Caribbean and Indian jungles, the Permo of the Andes, the desert lands of Arizona and Madeira.
Author of the ‘Encyclopedia of Exotic Plants for Temperate Climates’ (Timber Press) and 'The New Exotic Garden' published by Mitchell Beazley, he has mastered growing exotics often thought of as houseplants, outside in the garden, and is constantly pushing the presumed boundaries of hardiness. He has a strong reputation and prides himself with the knowledge that there are many exotic plants hardy enough to survive climate’s which are less than tropical!
He has hosted numerous talks including, Hilton UK at The Hampton Court Garden Festival and was invited to join the “BBC Gardeners World Travel Club” for a 2 week lecture Cruise. He promoted his latest book on a lecture tour of the Pacific coast States of North America. He will shortly be embarking on RHS tours in association with Cox and Kings to Morocco, Madeira and New Zealand. He will also be hosting a tour of Sri Lanka for the Natural History Museum.
Will continues to broadcast and writes for various magazines. He is currently developing several new book and television ideas on this exciting style of gardening.
